Class Information:
4 week series, meeting once a week for 90 minutes, usually in the mid-morning. Class days and times may vary.
(please see calendar for upcoming class dates and locations)
During the 4 week series, Gwyn MacDonald will teach parents a massage sequence that can be done every day, as well as some gentle stretches and techniques to help with colic and other tummy discomforts. Parents will learn about behavioral states, cues, and research on infant massage. There will be time for discussion on a variety of topics, as well as opportunities to share experiences as parents and caregivers.
Each participant will receive the book Infant Massage- A handbook for Loving Parents,
by Vimala McClure (founder of the International Association of Infant Massage), oil to use for the massage, and handouts of massage strokes for easy reference. Participants are asked to bring a pillow, baby blanket or towel and any other necessities that they would take with them in their usual travels. This class is open to all parents and babies and both moms and dads are welcome (and encouraged!) as well as grandparents and other caregivers.
This is a baby-centered class, so crying, nursing/feeding, changing, soothing and anything else needed to care for and comfort your baby are all accepted and encouraged!
* While I welcome babies one month to one year old, my experience is that once kids get crawling, their interest in reclining for a massage (when it's not bath or bed time) seems to go out the window! So that parents don't get too frustrated or discouraged I usually recommend the class for babies pre-crawling and under.*
Classes are held at various locations throughout Philadelphia.
The cost is $150.00 for the 4 week series.
Registration and payment for the class (either directly to me or to the venue itself) will depend on the policy of the venue where the class is being held and will be announced for each class series on the calendar page.
(Please note that on occasion, the price of the class may change due to the pricing policy of the venue.)
Please contact me if you are interested in a class, have a venue that would like to host a class or with any questions or concerns.
